Jada Pinkett Smith & TNT's HawthoRNe Definitely Knows Drama on Tuesday Nights!

Coming Up! Your Chance to *WIN* a HawthoRNe Branded Scrub Set and a Tote Bag

The doors of Richmond Trinity have closed... permanently. That's the dramatic reality that opens the second season of TNT's powerful medical drama, HAWTHORNE. This June, the hit series returns with star and executive producer Jada Pinkett Smith (The Women, The Matrix trilogy) as Christina Hawthorne, a Chief Nursing Officer ready for battle on the front lines of a war against declining patient services and hospital budget cuts.

HAWTHORNE is told from the point of view of nurses as they struggle against the odds to deliver the best care possible. The series also stars Michael Vartan (Alias) as Dr. Tom Wakefield, Richmond Trinity's Chief of Surgery who helped Christina's husband during the last stages of his cancer; Suleka Mathew (Men in Trees) as Bobbie Jackson, a fellow nurse and one of Christina's best friends; David Julian Hirsh (Lovebites) as Ray Stein, a nurse struggling with being accepted in a female-dominated profession; Christina Moore (90210) as Candy Sullivan, a nurse with a patriotic sense of duty; Vanessa Lengies (American Dreams) as Kelly Epson, who continues to find her footing as a nurse; and Hannah Hodson (TNT's The Ron Clark Story) as Christina's daughter Camille.

As the second season of HAWTHORNE opens, several Richmond Trinity doctors and nurses have been transferred to James River, a failing hospital in terrible shape. There, Christina butts heads with the ER's head nurse, Gail Strummer (Vanessa Bell Calloway - The District), who is extremely set in her ways. Christina is impressed, however, by the charming Dr. Steve Shaw (Adam Rayner - Mistresses), who hails from England, and the hard-working ER clerk Marcus Leeds (Collins Curtis Pennie - Half Nelson), who has his eye on Camille.

This season, Christina and Tom will try to forge a romantic relationship, especially now that he is no longer serving as Chief of Surgery and can devote more time to patient care and a private life. Bobbie will once again find herself helping out homeless mother Isabelle. Ray's lust-hate relationship with Dr. Marshall will hit some snags over Ray's continued feelings toward Candy, who is serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Kelly's confidence as a nurse will slowly build, thanks in part to her work with a nurse (guest star Sarah Gilbert - Roseanne) who's even more insecure. And Camille takes a step toward adulthood that her mother isn't sure she's prepared to take.

Created by Emmy winner John Masius (St. Elsewhere, Providence, Dead Like Me), HAWTHORNE comes to TNT from Sony Pictures Television in association with Pinkett Smith's 100% Womon Productions, John Masius Productions and Jamie Tarses' FanFare Productions. HAWTHORNE is executive-produced by Pinkett Smith; Masius; Glen Mazzara (The Shield, Crash, Life); and Jamie Tarses (My Boys).

Heineken Inspires Philly With Explosive Performances!

Philly was full of musical performances this past Saturday. From Global Fusion at Penns Landing, Funky Sounds at the Robin Hood Dell East with George Clinton and Heineken Inspire at the TLA you couldn't go wrong no matter where you went. I decided on spending the day with two celebrating Cancers and went to the Heineken Inspire shindig and we had a BLAST!!! Kudos to Philly's own repping hard and giving us a jammed packed show with surprises too. The hostess with the mostest, Skillz had us partying hard to DJ Jazzy Jeff and he did not disappoint. Marsha Ambrosius blessed us with her beautiful voice. FYI her new single "I hope she cheats on you" was an eye opener to the album she will be releasing soon. Daps to NC's J. Cole! He rocked the mic and brought out Freeway and the crowd lost it. If you dont know "Who Dat" is you better catch up cause J. Cole is who dat is! He gave a good performance. To end the show Musiq Soulchild took us back down memory lane with his classics and had us singing "Looooovveeeee" and more all loud and to the top of our lungs too! Check out this recap from Uristocrat.com

The Experience of Kidult Youth Leadership Conference

Here are the thoughts of a Panelist and Attendees of the Inaugural Kidult Youth Leadership Conference! Thanks for sharing your experience with Philly In The Know!!!

Click here to see the experience for yourself!

"The Kidult Youth Leadership Conference was everything I expected and more. First and foremost, the venue selection was impeccable. Walking into the Sheraton right in the heart of Manhattan felt like I was in a movie or entering a big business deal. The vibe was right, the hotel was packed with kids and I was set up with a VIP room with the other speakers. In this room, I met some very influential people, contacts I will continue to be in touch with and even do business with. I enjoyed the first couple speakers and when it was finally my turn to speak, I felt like it was my duty share something special with the kids. After all I had flown across the country for the opportunity and I would not leave without shining my light on the conference. My panel was early in the morning so there were some kids that looked sleepy but by the time we got into the crux of the topic “How to Turn Your Ideas Into Money Makers” necks were stiff and eyes wide open. Luckily, I had some animated characters on my panel to help the process, cough cough Hezekiah Griggs! I was happy with the set of questions we were asked and I think the other panelists and I shared some amazing things on that stage. I didn't realize the effect of my words while in the moment, but after I got off stage a sizable group of the kidults lined up to congratulate me and speak with me. I really enjoyed the whole experience and many of the kids have stayed in touch with me. I have been knighted a forever K!dult!"
Charles Fyffe, Kidult Panelist, CEO Charlie's Brownies, President Artistic Grassroots Latter (AGL) http://twitter.com/Fyffedom

"The Kidult Youth Leadership Conference was an amazing beginning to something that is destined to be around for a very long time. There were more than 500 determined, creative, and ambitious youth all in one room seeking guidance and tools for being a successful leader. The conference featured some very influential speakers and panelists whom touched the hearts of many of us who attended the conference. Everyone took something from it whether it was the powerful words of a new mentor or the memories of having a "Hot N' Fun" time with Kidult founder Pharrell Williams. It blows my mind that this was only the first year. I can only imagine how much greater the movement will be in the future. If you weren't in attendance make sure that you get hip to the Kidult movement today! Don't hear about it next year...experience it for yourself!" Ivan "Zay" Bradley, Earstyle Ent., Philadelphia http://twitter.com/earstylexzay

"Thanks to some fundraising and sponsorship, myself and fellow Jr. Music Executives were able to attend this monumental event. Many of the kidults were high school students from all over the world! It was nice to see a room full of driven young people. I attended the conference to network, not just with the kidults but with the speakers and mentors as well. I got a chance to talk with Datwon Thomas, Simone "Boss Lady" Kapsalide, and Marc Byers, outside in the lobby. After being impressed by what I have been doing and the moves I've been making, they told me to keep grinding and to use their names around our mutual acquaintances. That was good to hear, as many connects I can make is always good! What I was most impressed and enlighten with was when Dr. Steve Perry spoke! I was already astonished by the fact he had his own school, and did it pretty much on his own. But when he spoke he placed so much encouragement and ideas over all the kidults, it was refreshing! So will leave you with some of his quotes, "We aren't all Leaders and Winners, that's the reality of life." "Tomorrow isn't promised, so I'm the now, not the future!" "Everything you do has to better others. When that day comes, you will have to answer the question, what have you done to help others" Angeline Campbell Atlantic Records/Top Notch Inc., Philadelphia http://twitter.com/msangeline

Karen Nethersole, Esq. CEO of Full Circle NY Highlights Her Day at The Kidult Youth Leadership Conference

Full Circle NY Kicks Off The 1st Annual K!dult Youth Leadership Conference

The First Annual K!dult Youth Leadership Conference took place at the Sheraton New York Hotel on Saturday, June 26, 2010. The Conference was presented by Producer and Grammy Award winning Artist Pharrell Williams and brought together over 500 students for a day dedicated to feeding their curiosity, sharing, connecting to, celebrating, growing and leveraging the potential of the impressive lineup of some of the countries most successful young business leaders on hand to work with the students. To kick off the day and set the vibe for the event was Karen Nethersole, Esq. CEO of Full Circle NY. Karen, like Pharrell has found success not only in business but also in finding the fountain of youth. The two are “kids at heart” who are passionate for their work and developing the young people who are our future.

In her keynote speech, Karen spoke about “What Do I Want To Be When I Grow Up?” “When I walked into the ballroom and looked out at the 500 pairs of eyes ready and waiting to learn, I couldn’t help but be excited” says Karen. She shared with the audience three lessons her grandparents taught her. First they encouraged her to dream BIG, audacious ridiculous dreams. Second, they taught her the love of sports and to always finish the race. Finally, they taught her to not be afraid of taking risk.

Karen is an attorney who transitioned from the law firm to human resources at a Fortune 500 Company in the fashion industry and now at Full Circle NY (FCNY), a career development company she started in 2005. After becoming a TNJ 40 Under Forty Achievement Award honoree in 2008 Karen transitioned to FCNY full time. Her unique and varied experience highlights how so much is possible when you AIM HIGH AND DREAM BIG.

It was a day dedicated to our young people. Karen’s teachings cannot be found in the school curriculum. They are lessons learned through life’s many experiences. She made sure they understood the basic concepts being discussed. They learned more than how to “think outside of the box”. Karen showed them how to “create their own box” helping them to climb the ladder towards success. “Students are smarter than the credit they are given. They know more about what's going on in the world than people realize. They are the true inspiration,” Karen states. “One of my favorite moments of the day was when I asked the students if any of them wanted to be the president of the United States and an overwhelming number of young African American women stood up to take a bow.” Karen shares. The excitement in the ballroom was definitely contagious.

“Another highlight throughout the day was seeing how well Pharrell interacted with the students and how they gravitated towards him. He spent a great deal of time with the students talking not so much about what he was working on but how they can realize their dreams. They were always asking questions, trying to satisfy their natural curiosity about anything and everything. No matter what it was they were learning they wanted to go further.
They fired away with questions and never ran out of ammunition. They told their likes and dislikes, their hopes and fears, and their plans for the future“ says Karen. She is thankful to Pharrell, Mimi and Shaunice for providing her with the opportunity to be Keynote Speaker. The day closed with the anticipated performance by Pharrell. “It was a day that helped to shaped the lives of our youth” Karen expressed.
